Are You Enough?

Whether we admit it or not, most people want to feel good about life and know that they are enough. However, many people live with a chronic sense of not being enough and not doing enough. They may feel good about life temporarily, but as soon as things don’t go their way, they open the door to doubt, self-criticism, and feelings of inadequacy.

When people enter the Kingdom of God they are excited about their salvation and freedom, but sooner or later they find out that they are supposed to serve God. That all sounds good until they’re not sure how much serving is enough. They begin to strive again. Then they wonder if their activities are led by the Lord or compelled by the last preacher they heard. Things get complicated because some of them still struggle with the past feelings of not being good enough and not doing enough.

The truth is there are many scriptures that speaks about our fruitfulness and reaching others for Christ. However, we need to ensure that “doing” is properly founded upon what Jesus has done for us and who we are in Him. This is a balanced life of faith that our intimacy with Christ is the forerunner of our activities for Christ! Otherwise the messages heard, open the door to replacing worldly striving with so-called spiritual striving. Some search, grope, and try to figure out the call and the purpose of God, and in the process, they lose their joy because the answer does not come in the package they were looking for.

How do we remedy the need to be enough?

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Recently, I listened to Joyce Meyer speak, and she preached that our right-standing with God makes us right! This is a key principle that every believer should know and live by on a daily basis. It is true that we are not enough on our own, and we cannot do right in our own strength. The good news is that God already knew this and that is why He sent Jesus to this world, so He can give us His righteousness (a precious and valuable gift) we cannot earn or change about ourselves.

The scripture tells us that through Jesus, we became righteous. Becoming righteous means that we are in right standing before God and that Jesus covered our inadequacies. We have become enough. Jesus put on His rightness on us. There is nothing wrong with us anymore. The seed of life and His goodness has entered our lives, and we no longer have to live by the mindsets of the past.

We are a new creation, and in our new relationship, the Lord takes charge of the change. We are a work in progress but the master builder is working on us. We have given Him permission to do what is necessary to rebuild our foundation, transform us, and make us a holy habitation for Him.

The Lord is not asking us to strive to do more. That means on the days that we are not receiving a new direction and revelation we are still loved, accepted, and enough as the day He gives us a new direction. We get to enjoy our lives because Jesus died for us, so we can have life and have it more abundantly. This is something worth celebrating!

    Soooo good!!!!
Nice to be reminded that I am good enough. That I don’t have to strive to make God notice me, or think I should be doing more to get His approval.
