David didn’t have many supporters and encouragers in his early years, but he learned to lean on his shepherd and believe in his goodness!
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living. Psalm 27: 13
David had a difficult life in his early life. His father didn’t think much of him. His older brothers looked down upon him, and he was just an ordinary shepherd boy until he was anointed to be the future king of Israel.
As a matter of fact, even though Samuel anointed him to be the future king, David’s life did not change right away. He continued to be a shepherd boy and served his father. However, it the anointing from the prophet of God gave him a holy boldness when he saw that the Philistines were about to defeat the armies of his God, and he was willing to fight Goliath!
For years David was chased by Saul because of jealousy and insecurity, but David continued to be faithful to God. All the circumstances were against him, and it would have been easy for David to lose heart and to give up trying. Nevertheless, David continued to believe God!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever. Psalm 23:6
David counted on the goodness and mercies of God! His circumstances were tellng him one story, but he continued to look to the shepherd of his soul and believed that God was with him and that the Lord was on his side. David saw himself as a sheep who completely depended on the Lord and allowed Him to lead and guide his life.
Are you about to lose heart about a certain situation? Do you continue to believe God? Remember God’s goodness. Look to him and remember He is at work even when you don’t see it. Trust Him and continue to press in. Keep believing God and rely on His goodness!
