The creation of humanity was an extraordinary moment, filled with divine intention and purpose. However, the miraculous and awe-inspiring birth of Jesus holds even greater significance, as it restores and fulfills the original intent of God’s design and purpose for humanity.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26
God intentionally created humanity in His own image. When He spoke these words, both the Son and the Holy Spirit were present in the act of creation. The phrase “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” reveals the unity and collaboration of the Holy Triune God.
In His divine wisdom, God created man and woman in the image of the Godhead, reflecting His nature through our three-part design: spirit, soul, and body. Just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in perfect unity, so too are we designed for harmony within ourselves.
Our wholeness and health are rooted in our spirit’s connection to the Holy Spirit. When our spirit receives direction from Him, our soul and body can align, allowing us to live in the fullness of God’s design and purpose.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
The same Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who was present in the beginning chose to send the Son into the world as a baby. The King of Kings and Prince of Peace opted to take on the shape and vulnerability of a child. He was entrusted to a humble, young couple to be raised and protected for God’s purpose. The One upon whose shoulders the government would rest came not with opulence but in humility, born in a manger far from the noise, distractions, and applause of man.
We might wonder: why wasn’t this baby born with great fanfare? Simply put, He didn’t need to be. God understood the desperate condition of humanity. Jesus didn’t come to claim a position on the world’s stage; He came to liberate humanity from sin, depravity, oppression, false ideologies, and broken value systems. He wasn’t seeking honor or applause. Rather, He came as a physician to heal the sick—not to impress the sick or seek their approval.
In the same way, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords has chosen us as His ambassadors, entrusted with the mission of representing His image on earth. To represent Him well, we must follow His example. Jesus did not seek popularity or the approval of others, and neither should we. Instead of striving for recognition, we are called to focus on the needs of others, serving them selflessly for their sake rather than to fill a void in ourselves or to feed the ego.
When we embrace this mindset, our work becomes powerful and effective, and our churches transform into true places of refuge for the lost, the sick, and the weary. Let us walk in His humility and serve as He served, pointing others to the Prince of Peace!
