Fighting as a Christian (Part IV)

Fighting as a Christian is not about waging warfare against others. Instead it is about showing His Kingdom on the earth.  The Bible shows us how to fight.

1. Love and Forgiveness

Matthew 5:44 encourages believers to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Fighting as a Christian often means responding to hostility with love, not hatred or revenge.

2. Spiritual Warfare

Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the armor of God that we are to put on to stand against spiritual attacks.  This includes:

Belt of Truth: Living honestly and with integrity.

Breastplate of Righteousness: Pursuing a righteous life.

Shoes of Peace: Being ready to spread the message of peace.

Shield of Faith: Trusting in God to protect against doubts and fears.

Helmet of Salvation: Confidence in your salvation through Christ.

Sword of the Spirit: Using God’s Word (the Bible) as guidance and defense.

3. Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool for us. It’s how we communicate with God, seek His will, and gain strength. In spiritual battles, prayer is a way to seek God’s guidance and protection.

4. Perseverance in Faith

2 Timothy 4:7 talks about fighting the good fight of faith, which involves persevering in belief and living out Christian values, even in the face of challenges.

5. Developing the fruit of the Spirit

As we grow and mature in the fruit of the spirit (See Galatians 5:22-23), our spirit man grows. Our actions and behavior follow suit and people see a different brand of humanity that is rare on the earth. A believer whose fruit of the spirit is mature, does not fall prey to the enemy easily and their response and reactions speak of a different Kingdom!

6. Witnessing through Actions

We are called to be the light and salt to others (Matthew 5:14-16). By living a life that reflects Christ’s teachings, we bring light into the darkness, and we operate as a preservative.

7. Spiritual family

We are encouraged to support one another in our faith journey (Hebrews 10:24-25). The strength of the community can help and encourage each believer.

Fighting as a Christian is about maintaining faith, living righteously, and spreading love and truth, all the while we rely on His strength and grace!
