The Importance of Giving (Part I)

God is a giver and from the beginning of Creation, we see Him continually giving as He ordered and created the earth.

and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Genesis 1:15b

God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, Genesis 1:17

And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Genesis 1:29

Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Genesis 1:30

In the beginning, the Lord created and He gave! He spoke light into existence in order to give light to the earth. This light allowed His creation to grow and multiply. God used vegetation, herbs, and the fruit that He created to give and provide food for people and animals. He also gave the seeds of the vegetation for a continual cycle of multiplication, so the creation can continue a cycle of life, procreation, and multiplication. This is how the Lord blessed Adam and Eve at the beginning of Creation and gave them so much when there were only two of them!

And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. Genesis 9:2-3

Similar to Adam and Eve, God spoke to Noah after the destruction of the earth through the flood. God gave, and He positioned Noah for success with everything He provided for him and his family.

From the beginning, God has been giving to humanity. We would not be able to survive if we didn’t have the air to breathe or dry ground to live on. Our very existence is dependent on God’s marvelous and amazing conditions for humanity to live. He has held Creation in the palm of His hands, and He has continually protected humanity from annihilation.

It is remarkable that with everything that God has blessed humanity with, some people dare to question His existence as if they could have produced or maintained any of it. Despite all the development in science and technology, humanity is still not able to control and prevent things such as flooding, hurricanes, and earthquakes.

Today is a good day to reflect on God’s giving and His hand of provision upon humanity. Let us pray that people will come to the realization of God’s giving nature and that they can do nothing apart from Him!
