Faltering Between Two Opinions

In the days of Ahab and Jezebel, the people of God were confused about the true God of the Bible and who they should worship. Elijah declared to people “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” Christians are of two opinions right now. They are divided on what is pleasing to God and what is best for our country. They are listening to all kinds of voices, and they are tossed to and fro about what is Godly and what should be important for this country.

We need God’s help, and the prophet Elijah has something to teach us on this issue.

So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel. 21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word. 22 Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. 23 Therefore let them give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. 24 Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God.”

So all the people answered and said, “It is well spoken.” 1 Kings 18:20-24

Not only the land of Israel was in famine,  but they were also in spiritual famine where Jezebel had tried to kill every true prophet of God and propagate her own wicked messages. Elijah was one of the true prophets who was still standing. Elijah was bold and courageous and called upon the God of heaven to show Himself as the real God and expose the false prophets! Elijah knew that false prophets had deceived the people of God, so he brought about a big showdown between the true God and Jezebel’s Baal and false prophets.

In the current climate of our nation, many false prophets have risen, and they are appealing to people’s emotions, pain, and carnality. If you read the end of the Bible,  you will find that God does not care about people’s feelings at the end of the age. He cares about those who submitted their lives to Jesus and would not bow down to the enemy. The earth will be judged greatly by the very merciful God who has given people time to repent. Many claim that they are not bowing down to any idols. However, they are willing to vote for individuals who are openly against God’s truth and precepts. God is compassionate, but His compassion is always mixed with truth and accountability.  Jesus told the woman caught in adultery that He wasn’t going to condemn her but that she should go and sin no more (See John 8:11). God holds people accountable to their choices, and He does not allow His compassion to become a license to keep them in sin and lawlessness.

Unless we stop the deception of false compassion, we are going to continually be led astray by false prophets and politicians who do not care about God’s righteousness on the earth. We will continue to propagate lawlessness and ungodly laws in the name of compassion, freedom, and political correctness.

According to the above passage, Elijah repaired the altar, placed a sacrifice, poured water on it, and called upon the Lord! Similarly, this is the time that we need to pray, place ourselves and the nation on the altar of God, and pray for repentance. We are at a critical time in the history of our nation. Interestingly, even our current election is showing a faltering of two stark viewpoints and policies for this nation. We need to pray that God would send down his fire and burn up anything that is not like Him.

Lord, we pray in the name of Jesus that every carnal and demonic spirit raised up against the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His will for this nation be burned up. May the false prophets and false idols be exposed and people’s eyes be opened to what is at stake. Lord save our nation from false ideologies, opinions, and humanism. We pray that people will turn from their wicked ways. We pray that the glory of God fall upon our nation and may people know the God of the Bible. We pray for integrity, clarity, and peace for this nation.

We all agree that ultimately Jesus is the answer and will return for His bride. However, in the meantime, how do we allow ourselves to be used by God to bring His Kingdom on the earth as it is in heaven!? We cannot be of two opinions anymore. We cannot allow sin, wickedness, and ungodliness to establish political correct altars at the sacrifice of the will of God and the word of God. It is time to understand the will of the Lord and partner with Him in bringing His will on the earth.

  1. No matter who wins this election we must stay true to our Lord. And always know that he is ultimately in control.

  2. Karline,
Thanks so much for this on time message. My prayer is that everyone come into alignment with God’s word.
