Love Being Perfected (Part I)

Do you want to be a better lover of the Lord and of people? The scripture gives us an answer.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:17-19

When we begin the journey with God, our understanding of God’s love towards us is limited. As a result, our love for God and for others is very immature and carnal. It is only over time and through God’s dealings that He helps us believe His love more deeply. His merciful love also allows us to love more generously and maturely.

The above scripture reminds us that our love needs maturity and perfection. It is through perfect love that fear is cast out. What are the areas you are afraid of? What areas of love need to be perfected in you?

Sometimes we use our childhood as a reason for being fearful or for not trusting God. We believe because we didn’t have the perfect earthly example. it is ok to stay in unbelief or fear. This is an excuse that keeps us stuck in what happened to us in the past. When we believe Jesus and receive Him as our Savior and Lord, He makes us a new creation. Therefore, the past should not have the power or control that it had before. The Lord can even give us a new understanding or a new perspective of the past. He also delivers us from bondages of the past as we partner with him in forgiving the people in the past and have a clean slate.

Have you thought about the fact that the most important agreement you will ever make is to staying loyal to your covenant with the Lord!? This agreement changes us and changes our relationship with the Lord and with others.

We are called to live a life of surrender and a child like faith. We also must allow Him to wash our feet when they get dirty from issues of life. We should regularly examine our relationship with the Lord and ensure that we are not in unbelief or doubt. We want to work on keeping our heart tender.

Do you believe the Lord when He speaks to you and take Him seriously!? This is not optional! We must listen carefully to His leading. In this process, we interact with the Lord and grow in the love relationship with Him. This gives us the opportunity to become secure in His love, which washes away fear and allows us to become perfected in love!
