Many of us celebrate Jesus’s birth during Christmas, but we don’t focus much on his miraculous birth! Jesus is the only one whose birth came through a virgin. The virgin birth is the great differentiator between religions, and its significance cannot be underestimated!
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23
Many prophets and religious leaders have come on the stage. However, they all have had natural birth by a man or a woman, and they all have died. What makes Jesus’ birth special is that He was born of a virgin. He did not come through a natural man, but His seed was from the spirit of God. He was born as the son of God! As a result, that makes Jesus unique in history! He cannot be considered on the same plane as any old prophet.
In addition, since Jesus was not born in sin or shaped in iniquity, His virgin birth makes Him to be the only one in the history of humanity that qualifies Him to be the savior of the world! Furthermore, His obedience and sinless life continued to keep Him in the rightful place to be our High Priest and be the mediator between us and the Lord.
Recently, I had a conversation with a young lady who was knowledgable about her religion and was skillful about defending her faith. She knew about Jesus, and she said that they actually study the Bible. Her religion also believes in Jesus’ virgin birth. While we have major differences in our faiths, they do acknowledge Jesus’ virgin birth. After some discussion about our faiths, I asked her, “Doesn’t the fact that Jesus was born of a virgin make Him different? Why has no other person claimed to have been born of a virgin? Shouldn’t there be a purpose for the virgin birth?” I believe, she will be thinking about these questions.
During this season, you will have opportunities to interact with some unbelievers. His virgin birth is a great topic to discuss with them. You can ask them some questions such as: Shouldn’t Jesus’ miraculous birth make you wonder why He was born of a virgin!? What was the purpose and significance of this? Why did God allow Him to be different than any other person on the face of the earth!?
